Whales to grace moving trucks in nj

SUMMIT - Why are whales swimming on vans? The stunning motif is a project of National Van Lines, which has selected 17 specialty moving companies throughout the country to carry its latest logo.

One of those firms, Harrington Moving and Storage in New Jersey, is owned by Summit resident Jeff Harrington, who started the business in 1996. They now service Summit, Basking Ridge, Berkeley Heights, Maplewood, Short Hills, Chatham, South Orange, Millburn, Springfield, and Park Avenue South, New York and beyond.

Mr. Harrington grew up in Summit, attending Lincoln-Hubbard School. He lives with his wife and son on Ascot Way.

"Moves are only a one part of our business. We do overseas work as well, in the United Kingdom, Africa and Europe." he said. Mr. Harrington and his staff have also participated in relief efforts for Hurricane Katrina victims, and have provided overseas supplies to the military in Ubekistan and for other causes. This is his second year with the national line.

The whale motif comes from the Wyland Foundation, which is dedicated to oceanography and arts and science programs. National Van Lines is headquarted near Chicago, and promotes enviromental causes.

Jorja Coulter, marketing director for National Van Lines, said, "We´re real proud to have Jeff with us. He gives wonderful service and has great rapport with his customers."

Mr. Harrington said that storage is a major aspect of his business, too.

"I don´t know if it´s our society or that people find a place they totally love. When they redo their houses, we empty the house out and store their furniture." he said of some customers. Harrington´s first van location was on River Road, then he moved the business to Berkeley Heights. The firm has recently opened an office on Park Avenue in New York City, as well as a Maplewood location.

Although Mr. Harrington has a fleet of 10 trucks, he mantains the personal touch, which he said is important, "with an industry like ours, You can call the office and you´ll get me. Our business has exploded." he said.

Mr Harrington added of his 10 years in the business, "Quality never takes a vacation. People trust us."
